Opal Lea Williams (Polly), age 89, a 31-year resident of Payson, went home to our Lord in Heaven on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013. She was a resident of Rim Country Health and a member of Ponderosa Baptist Church in Payson.
Opal was born May 19, 1923 in Clarksburg, West Virginia. She married Robert Orr Williams on Dec. 30, 1939. They recently celebrated their 73rd anniversary.
Opal was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She had a passion for her family and friends and a deep faith and love of God. Opal loved to laugh and was always ready with a warm hug. She touched the lives of all who knew her and she will be remembered with fond, loving, happy and funny memories.
Opal is survived by her husband of 73 years, Robert Williams; a son, Steve Williams, who was her caregiver, and his wife Monica of Payson; a son Gary and wife Pat Williams of Mesa, Ariz.; one brother; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many other beloved family members and friends.
As per Opal’s request, no funeral service will be held. Her wish was that her family members have various gatherings to celebrate her life.
The family wishes to extend a very special, heartfelt thank you to the nurses, CNAs and the entire staff at Rim Country Health, as well as Opal’s personal physician, Dr. Alan Michels and his staff. They showed extraordinary care, compassion, comfort and love both to Opal and her family members in her final days.
